According to Velvet Park Magazine and Broadcastingcable.com:

The L Word spin-off: It will star The L Word’s Leisha Hailey and will be a “very different, substantially different show” from The L Word, he says.

Hailey’s character Alice Pieszecki goes to jail, where the new show would be set. While The L Word, which will conclude as a series after its yet-to-premiere sixth season, focuses primarily on a community of lesbians, the spin-off would involve a broad spectrum of characters, including some lesbians, Greenblatt says: “It’s a big group of characters and there’s a few lesbians in that group, but it isn’t the exact makeup of what The L Word was.”

When asked if it is a “female Oz,” he says that was “not a bad description,” though it would not be as dark as Oz, the gritty, former HBO series.

Three guest stars appear in the pilot and may or may not go forward on the series should it get picked up: Melissa Leo (Frozen River), Famke Janssen and Laurie Metcalf.

Greenblatt says he expects to make a decision about the pilot, which he has not yet seen cut together, in the next couple of months.

Can someone tell me why Showtime is determined to spoil the entire sixth season of The L Word? If the writers were going for a mystery thriller based on who killed Jenny, and now we know Alice lands in jail, is there really any suspense for the last eight episodes? Oh my, do I see a shark down there?

God, I hope not! I cringe every time she opens her mouth on “The View.”

She was however, incredibly “honored” to introduce Gov. Sarah Palin on Sunday at a Republican rally in Florida.

But she was even more excited about being able to “talk for a full five minutes without being interrupted,” by Joy or Whoopi.

She talked about Palin’s women’s rights views: equal pay for equal work, putting an end to honor killings, aiding women exploited in the sex trade and stopping the sanctioning of the abortion of unborn daughters in other countries.

She decried the fact that “they” are “fixated on her wardrobe,” calling it a double standard and deliberately sexist. But then she turned to Palin and remarked admiringly that the governor “sure is a woman who knows how to dress,” which got some rather sexist whoops, hollers and whistles from the audience.

Hasselbeck added: “I’m most impressed by her accessories, you know, like the flag pin she wears in honor of her son and our military — men and women — fighting abroad. And they fight for our every right to be here today.”

Oh, Ok

“The Rachel Maddow Show,” her left-leaning news and commentary program, has averaged a higher rating among 25- to 54-year-olds than “Larry King Live” on CNN for 13 of the 25 nights she has been host.

Ms. Maddow’s regular appearances on “Countdown” and her popularity on the Internet has certainly helped her ratings. Ms. Maddow, a former AIDS activist, was also presumably helped by her four years on the Air America radio network.

Republican Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin introduced herself to America before a cheering crowd at the Republican National Convention on last night.

She described herself as a typical “hockey mom” who strove to make life better for her children first by signing up for the local PTA and later by running for political office. She introduced her family one by one to the crowd, including her husband, Todd. “We met in high school, and two decades and five children later he’s still my guy,” Ms. Palin said.

“Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown,” Ms. Palin told the roaring delegates in a speech filled with sacrcasm that cut down Mr. Obama. “And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities.”

Ms. Palin was referring to Mr. Obama’s experience as a community organizer in Chicago before he served in the Illinois legislature and was elected to the United States Senate in 2004.

With no mention of her stand on abortion and other policies, Palin tonight said she and McCain will focus on spurring the development of alternative energy sources, while building more nuclear plants and drilling for oil and gas in new areas. Palin also mocked Obama’s message of change.

“Here’s how I look at the choice Americans face in this election,” she said. “In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change.”

Watching the RNC scared the crap out of me. Especially when they all started the “drill, drill” chant.

While I am happy to see a woman in a possible vice presidential position, the fact that she is a woman, does not mean we should vote for her. A self described “pitbull with lipstick,” I certainly do not agree with her policies although, we have not heard much about them from her…yet.

Her speech last night was rousing and a bit Reese Witherspoon in Election. She certainly stirred up the crowd and it made me nervous for Obama. She did make some good points.

As a Hillary fan, I too was concerned about Obama’s lack of experience. His speeches and gatherings were not enough. He’s certainly charismatic, intelligent and young. and we’re counting on you Obama! Get tough!

The fight is on!

Chickipedia receives over one million unique visitors every month. The site is entirely user generated, making it the first female-only encyclopedia of the people, by the people, and for the people.

My guess is it’s mostly generated by men. Hence the name, and the sexiest woman in August…Ashley Dupree, the women that brought down Elliot Spitzer. This site has sexist articles and even the actresses breast sizes and measurements. Objectification once again, although I do like me some Famke Janssen.

The following are the most searched for women on Chickipedia in the month of August:

1. Megan Fox

2. Jessica Alba

3. Pamela Anderson

4. Kim Kardashian

5. Jenna Jameson

6. Angelina Jolie

When the L-Word debuted in 2004, networks were astounded that the new television series did so well at capturing a diverse television audience in addition to its anticipated gay following. Since the L-Word’s success television networks have attempted to replicate the Lesbian story line into various television shows.

With the L-Word entering its final television season, savvy networks attempting to build on the success of the Lesbian drama are eyeing The Seer (www.watchtheseer.com). Billed as Cagney and Lacy, meets Medium, meets the L-Word, The Seer captures both mainstream and gay audiences with its powerful crime solving story line with a lesbian undertone.

The Seer, the brainchild of creator/writer Linda Andersson, takes its audience on the journey of Lesbian Private Detective Guin Marcus who struggles professionally and personally with her powers as The Seer, a visionary who is frequently hired by the L.A.P.D. to help solve crimes. In addition to assisting the L.A.P.D., Guin’s steamy love life is guaranteed to satiate the lonely L-Word audience.

The Pilot for The Seer has been reviewed by Hollywood insiders and the buzz of the “to be” drama has already leaked to Lesbian web sites like AfterEllen.com “With no new news on Elizabeth Keener’s proposed lesbian crime show for here! Network, maybe The Seer will hit the air first. And we’ll get to enjoy a lot more of Michelle, Deborah and clairvoyant lesbians with guns.”

Those with knowledge of the matter say that for $300,000, consumer brands can buy an “integration package” that will either incorporate a brand into existing L Word storylines or allow the brand to work with the show’s writers to create customized storylines, participating in one episode or across several…

While Ms. Chaiken wouldn’t comment on the $300,000 figure, she did say that pricing is being kept flexible to allow the maximum number of potential partners. The L-Word, she notes, isn’t just about and for gays and lesbians; it’s about “affluent, avid consumers plugged into pop culture,” which Ms. Chaiken said makes the series “a rare, perfect opportunity for showcasing brands” to women, lesbian or not.[Queerty]

America’s highest paid newscaster has claimed she is a victim of sexism and that discrimination based on gender is more prevalent – and tolerated – in US society than racism.

Katie Couric, the CBS evening news anchor who earns a reported $15 million a year, compared herself to failed presidential candidate Senator Hillary Clinton in an interview with Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz.

“I find myself in the last bastion of male dominance, and realizing what Hillary Clinton might have realized not long ago: that sexism in the American society is more common than racism, and certainly more acceptable or forgivable,”

Miss Couric told the paper as she covered Senator Barack Obama’s Middle East tour.

“In any case, I think my post and Hillary’s race are important steps in the right direction.”

Ms Couric, who in 2006 became the first woman to present a primetime network news broadcast solo, has faced intensive scrutiny not only of her job performance but her outfits and personal life since taking over the CBS Evening News.

And last month, Leslie Moonves, the network’s chief executive, suggested the sexist attitudes of people “who don’t want news from a woman” were partly to blame for her poor ratings, which last month hit a 20-year low for the program.

Her opponents claimed she is too nice, too sweet, that her too-short skirts exposed legs that are too pretty, that hard news is not her cup of tea, and that in any case her salary is inflated. The dignified interviews she held with world leaders, with kings and heads of state, and even with John Kennedy, Jr. in the last interview he gave before he died, are ignored. Her detractors insisted on remembering her interview of Elmo, the “Sesame Street” character and the animated puppets. Read full Ha’aretz article
