palin1.JPGSenator John McCain has chosen Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his running mate this morning, shaking up the political world with a surprise pick at a time when his campaign has been trying to attract women, especially disaffected supporters of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Ms. Palin — a 44-year-old conservative Christian and self-described “hockey mom” has been governor of for less than two year. She opposes abortion and same sex marriage, is a member of NRA , and supports drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve.

The selection will likely help McCain, who has a reputation as a moderate, win over the conservative base.

miseducation.jpgThe Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was released 10 years ago this week and went on to sell more than 8 million copies, win five Grammys and earn a four-star review in Rolling Stone. Mary J. Blige hailed it as “one of the most incredible albums ever made” and the record influenced a generation of soul and hip-hop artists.

A work of art yet to be rivaled by any artist, let alone a female MC. It changed the game, literally and opened a lane for what would ultimately spawn into neo-soul and the reemergence of conscious music with a musical vibe and intensified spirit.

lauryn.jpgTo celebrate the album, Rolling Stone spoke with many of those responsible for making it: a then-little known pianist named John Legend, D’Angelo, engineer Commissioner Gordon, backup singers, New-Ark producers, Hill’s longtime companion Rohan Marley, her Fugee bandmate Pras Michel and Lauryn of course.

We miss you girl!
