A lesbian kiss between starlettes Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson was the talk of the Cannes Film Festival last night.

The on-screen make-out is being credited with reviving the career of veteran film maker Woody Allen and spicing up the 61st festival.

The movie, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, is a romantic comedy with Penelope as the jealous ex-wife of painter Javier Bardem. She seduces Scarlett after Bardem meets her and British actress Rebecca Hall, who play US tourists in Barcelona.

PhotobucketLindsay Lohan’s mother and sister have laughed off reports that the actress is a lesbian, insisting the rumor is just the latest in the long line of silly stories the press fires at the family. The “Mean Girls” star has been linked romantically to pal Samantha Ronson for some time and now Dina and Ali Lohan are speaking out about the gossip.

In an interview to promote her new reality show, “Living Lohan,” Dina tells TV show Extra, “Samantha’s an amazing girl,” while Ali adds, “They’re best friends. They’re just friends. It’s pathetic what people say.”

California Court Rules Gays May Marry

PhotobucketThe California Supreme Court, striking down two state laws that had limited marriages to unions between a man and a woman, ruled on Thursday that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry.

The 4-to-3 decision, drawing on a ruling 60 years ago that struck down a state ban on interracial marriage, would make California the second state, after Massachusetts, to allow same-sex marriages.

The decision, which becomes effective in 30 days unless the court grants a stay, was greeted with celebrations at San Francisco City Hall, where thousands of same-sex marriages were thrown out by the courts four years ago.

The state’s constitution “guarantees same-sex couples the same substantive constitutional rights as opposite-sex couples to choose one’s life partner and enter with that person into a committed, officially recognized, and protected family relationship,” the court said.

Gay marriage has been one of the most divisive issues in recent American politics and has mobilized millions of socially conservative Christian voters to support candidates such as President George W. Bush who oppose it.
